2026 Oboe Composition Intensive

The Wizarding School for Composers invites composers of all skill levels, ages, and nationalities to apply for an Oboe Composition Intensive taught by composer Dr. Joseph Sowa and Jennet Ingle, principal oboist of the South Bend Symphony.

In the intensive, you will have the opportunity to write an original 2-4’ piece for oboe or English horn, with or without piano accompaniment. Composers will be paired with adult students from Jennet Ingle’s oboe studio. You and your partner will collaborate directly, leading to the performance and recording of your work.

Details at A Glance

  • January is the month for finding partnership, with the first meeting January 21, 2026 and a check-in by February 4. Private lessons after February 11, with the piece due March 4.

  • Between March 4 and April 8, you can book a 1:1 coaching session with Dr. Ingle

  • Your 2-4’ oboe or English horn piece will be performed in the April 8, 2026 online concert of Jennet Ingle's oboe studio and may be subsequently professionally recorded in Miami University of Ohio July, 2026.

The course includes

  • 1 group masterclass on oboe writing with Jennet Ingle. She’ll cover everything you need to know about writing for oboe and English horn and provide a Q+A session.

  • 2 private composition lessons with Dr. Joseph Sowa. He’ll review your piece, offer feedback, and help you prepare it for performance.

  • 1 group masterclass on collaboration and marketing your music, led by Dr. Joseph Sowa. He’ll teach you a proven, step-by-step system to get additional performances and score sales of your oboe piece.

  • Total cost: $200.

By the end of the intensive, you’ll have a beautiful addition to your portfolio that will be attractive to oboists for future performances, and the tools to get those performances.
